Earlier this year, local charity Friends of ANCHOR launched its major anniversary event to celebrate 20 years of cancer support, haematology care and treatment for patients throughout the North-east of Scotland.

The 20for20 Anchor Voyage was created to embrace a working partnership with local artists and keen creatives throughout the North-east in an effort to raise awareness and much needed funds for the charity. Twenty individually designed anchor sculptures were displayed throughout the summer months in Aberdeen city, Aberdeenshire, and as far afield as Moray, Orkney and Shetland, which all fall within Aberdeen Royal Infirmary’s ANCHOR Unit catchment area.

Voyagers of 20th anniversary campaign will now have a chance to own one of the individually designed anchors when 15 are auctioned to raise money for the local charity.

One anchor has been selected to start off the bidding early at the FoA Masked Ball, which will take place at the Duthie Park on the evening of 10 November. Artist Mel Shand’s Mrs Melgorium’s Botanical Emporium anchor, which was displayed at Bellfield Park in Banchory, is expected to attract a lot of interest and will set the benchmark for the remaining anchors at the main auction.

The Anchor Voyage main auction will take place at the Chester Hotel on Thursday 23 November from 7pm. Sponsors, artists and guests will be invited to attend the auction and a limited number of tickets will also be available for the public from the 20for20 website (www.friendsofanchor20for20.org). Tickets cost £20 each, with all proceeds going towards the charity’s Dream Big campaign, which has pledged a commitment to £1 million to the University of Aberdeen’s ambitious £4.5 million project to attract and recruit a world-class oncology and research team to the North-east.
