Online bidding continues to transform Thainstone machinery sales

09/07/2020
Leading auctioneering company, Thainstone Specialist Auctions (a division of ANM Group) settles into the new online sales pattern, and are delighted with the success of the second live online only sale of plant, equipment, machinery and commercial vehicles which took place at Thainstone Centre on Wednesday 8th July.

Access restrictions imposed by government to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 meant that no buyers were present on site during the sale however, more than 590 registered to take part via TSA’s online sales platform. The live auction, split into multiple sections with auctioneers running the sections concurrently, featured an entry of more than 833 lots and resulted in an 81% success rate.

As an addition to the online sale of machinery, equipment, and vehicles the team also hosted a timed auction of builders equipment, in which bidders could bid on items over a period of 4 days via the Thainstone Online platform. The addition proved to be successful and is hoped to feature at forthcoming sales.

Mark Barrack, Head of Thainstone Specialist Auctions, said: “With such a great response from our first live online only sale we were confident this sale would run smoothly and are thrilled to have achieved a high sales rate. The team did an excellent job setting up the event, facilitating the auction and delivered a professional service. Seeing as the sales structure of the initial online auction worked so well, we maintained our procedures, making minor adjustments and adhered to all COVID 19 guidance.

“Throughout the sale bidders were enthusiastic meaning that strong prices were achieved all round, resulting in accurate valuations, which in turns demonstrates a steady market for the types of items displayed throughout the auction.

“Looking ahead, we will be hosting regular online sales and are planning to gradually return to our regular sales agenda over the coming months. We are looking forward to welcoming visitors back to the Thainstone Centre when it is safe and appropriate to do so, however in the meantime we continue to encourage online participation”
